2011-2012 SCHOLARSHIPS

November 1 – Prudential Spirit of Community Award: Students who have made a difference through volunteering are encouraged to apply. Recipients will have the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. next May, along with a $1000.00 cash prize. This award is sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. November 1 – Missouri S&T Chancellor’s Scholarship: $12,000 per year awarded to 15 incoming freshman. This is a competitive scholarship and applicants must have a completed application for admission on file with the university. December 1 – Mizzou Scholars Award: $10000 per year. 33 ACT or 1140 SAT and strong academic record required. This is a competitive scholarship and applicants must have a completed application for admission on file with the university. December 1 – Missouri State University Multicultural Leadership Scholarship: 50 scholarships valued at $6250 per year are awarded to selected recipients. Applicants must rank in the top 50% of their class or have a 3.0 GPA (6th semester transcript) and demonstrate leadership in multicultural activities. December 1 – Missouri State University Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders Scholarship: 24 scholarships with a value of $1250 - $2500 per year are awarded based on financial need as demonstrated on the FAFSA. Applicants must rank in the top 50% of their class or have a 3.0 GPA and a minimum 20 ACT score. In addition, applicants must submit an application for admissions by December 1. December 1 – Missouri State University Presidential Scholarship: 30 scholarships valued at $12500 per year. This is a competitive scholarship and applicants must rank in the top 10% of their class or have a 3.9 GPA and possess a 30 ACT score. Visit www.missouristate.edu/financialaid/scholarships/presscholinfo.htm for more information. Recipients will be rewarded $5,000 per year; a total potential value over four years is $20,000. Non-Missouri residents will also receive a full waiver of non-resident fees. To be eligible, the student must be in the top 10 percent of class (or 3.90 GPA on a 4.00 scale) combined with a minimum ACT of 28 (or SAT of 1250*) or International Baccalaureate diploma recipient.The renewal criteria are as follows; complete 30 Missouri State credit hours each academic year with a 3.50 cumulative Missouri State grade point average. Additionally, to renew for your fourth year, you will be required to complete an average of 40 hours of community or campus service each year during your first three years. February 1 – James L. and Nellie M. Westlake Scholarship Program: Scholarship awards will cover the cost of tuition, plus approximately $2,000 additional to cover the cost of fees, books, and supplies. For freshmen, awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor's degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Awards for community college students transferring to a four-year college or university are renewable up to two years for students entering at the sophomore level, up to one year for students entering at the junior level or until a bachelor's degree is earned. Renewal is contingent upon full-time study, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale for college freshmen, and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for college sophomores and juniors, and continuation of the program by the James L. and Nellie M. February 1 – Frances Crawford Marvin American Indian Scholarship:This scholarship is awarded once a year to one student. A candidate for this scholarship must be enrolled full-time at a two or four year college or university. Applicants must be Native Americans and proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers. Students must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and a have a 3.0 GPA or higher. The amount of the scholarship is based on total return of the endowment, and may vary year to year. February 8 – KFC Colonel’s Scholarships: Recipients can receive up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, and room and board. To qualify, graduating high school seniors must: earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75, enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and demonstrate a financial need. February 15 – Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship: One $2000 award is given to a graduating high school student who will pursue an undergraduate degree with a concentrated study (24 credits minimum) in American History and Government. This scholarship is renewable for up to four years. See Mrs. Petree for application.

February 15 – Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students who are in financial need and are accepted and enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. See Mrs. Petree for application.

February 15 – Lillian and Arthur Dunn Scholarship: This is a $2000 scholarship awarded for up to four years to well qualified, deserving sons or daughters of the NSDAR for four years of college. See Mrs. Petree for application.

February 15 – Madeline Pickett (Halbert) Cogswell Nursing Scholarship: This scholarship is a one-time award of $1000  awarded to students who are accepted or enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. Applicants must be members, descendants of members or be eligible for membership for NSDAR. See Mrs. Petree for application.

February 28 - Shell Oil Company Technical Scholarship: Scholarship Value: $2,500 – 20 Awards To be eligible for this scholarship you must: 1. A high school student who plans to enroll full-time in one of the following: geology, geophysics, physics, chemical, civil, electrical, geological, geophysical, and mechanical or petroleum engineering. February 29 – Buick Achievers Scholarship Program: Scholarship Value $25,000 – 1100 Awards To be eligible for this scholarship you must: 1. Be high school seniors or graduates or be current undergraduate students. 2. Plan to major in a specified course of study that focuses on Engineering/Technology or select Design and Business-related programs of study. 3. March 1 – Dr. Anita Young Boswell Scholarship: Scholarship Value: $1,000 -2 Awards To be eligible for this scholarship you must: 1. Enter an accredited college or university as a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in 2012. 2. Have an accumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher. March 8 – Society of Professional Journalists Essay Scholarship: Scholarship Value: $1,000 To be eligible for this scholarship you must: 1. Be enrolled in grader 9-12 in U.S. public, private and home schools. 2. March 15 - Kohl's Cares: Kohl's recognizes more than 2,100 kids, ages six to 18, with more than $415,000 in scholarships and prizes ranging from $50 Kohl's Gift cards to $10,000 scholarships for post-secondary education. Please visit www.kohlskids.com from February 1 through March 15, 2012.

March 16 – USPAACC Scholarships: Scholarship Value: $5,000 – 20 Awards To be considered eligible for the USPAACC Scholarships you must: 1.Be at least 16 years of age at the time of the application. 2. For the Bruce Lee Scholarship you may come from any Ethnic background. However, for the rest of the scholarships you must be of Asian American Descent. 3. A citizen or permanent resident of the United States. 4. Beginning full-time study at an accredited post-secondary educational institution in the United States in Fall 2012. March 16 - Community Foundation of the Ozarks: The Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO) is proud to administer some 230 scholarships, as a service to the greater community. Most of the scholarship grant awards are for graduating high school seniors. Please visit www.cfozarks.org from February 16 through March 16, 2012.  Scholarships & amounts are subject to change. March 23 – Students for Life High School Scholarship Program: Scholarship Vale: $500 – 40 Awards To be eligible students must be active members in National Honor Society. NHS members interested in this scholarship opportunity shoudl see Mrs. Petree for an application.

March 31 - Buick Achievers Scholarship Program: Recipients will be awarded one scholarship at either of the two award levels: 1,000 Buick Achievers Scholarships of $2,000, available for four years and one additional year for those entering a five-year engineering program. 100 Buick Achievers National Scholarships of up to $25,000 per year, available for four years, and one additional year for those entering a five-year engineering program. The actual award amount will not exceed the total cost of the student's tuition, fees, books, supplies, required equipment, room and board and other allowable expenses, less other gift aid known at the time of application (scholarships, grants and other awards that do not have to be paid back). April 1 – American Indian Scholarship: This scholarship is a one-time award of $1000 intended to help Native American college/university and technical school students of any age, any tribe, in any state at the undergraduate and graduate level. Applicant must be Native Americans (evidence of American Indian heritage is required) in financial need and have a GPA of 2.75 or higher. See Mrs. Petree for application.

April 20 – Lillie Lois Ford Scholarship Fund: Two awards of $1000 each are given each year, one to a boy who has attended a full session of The American Legion Boys State of Missouri or a full session of the Department’s Cadet Patrol Academy and a second award is given to a girl who has attended a full session of The American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State program or a full session of the Department’s Cadet Patrol Academy. April 20 – M.D. “Jack Murphy Memorial Nurses Training Fund: Currently one $750 award is given for two consecutive semesters, and may, by application, be extended for two additional consecutive semesters. This award is available to a Missouri boy or girl training to be a Registered Nurse, and may be used in their freshman or subsequent college years. The applicant must have graduated in the top 40% of their high school class or have a “C” or equivalent standing from their last college or university semester. Scholarships are awarded for one year, payable at $375 per semester. See Mrs. Petree for more details.

April 20 – Joseph J. Frank Scholarship: Five awards of $500 are given annually to individuals who are descendants of a veteran. Applicant must have attended a full session of The American Legion Boys State or The American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program. Applicants must be unmarried, under the age of 21, a current resident of the state of Missouri and must use the scholarship as a full time student in an accredited college or university.  See Mrs. Petree for more details.

April 20 – Charles L. Bacon Memorial Scholarship: Two awards of $500 are given annually in memory of the first Missourian to serve as a National Commander of The American Legion. Eligible are individuals who are currently members of The American Legion, or a descendent of a member of any thereof, Applicants must be unmarried, a resident of Missouri, under the age of 21, and must use the scholarship as a full time student in an accredited college or university.  See Mrs. Petree for more details.

April 20 – Erman W. Taylor Memorial Scholarship: Two $500 awards are given annually to a student planning on obtaining a degree in education, in honor of this Past National Executive Committeemen from Missouri. To be eligible, individuals must: (1) be a descendent of  a veteran who served 90 or more days of active duty in the armed forces and having an honorable discharge; (2) be a Missouri resident; (3) use the award as a full time student in an accredited college or university; (4) provide a  copy of the discharge certificate for the veteran (DD214) on whose the application is made; and (5) submit an essay of 500 words or less on the subject “In your opinion, what was the most significant world event of 2007/2008?” See Mrs. Petree for more details.

April 20 – Shane Dean Voyles Memorial Scholarship: One $500 award will be awarded annually. (1) Each school in the State of Missouri may nominate one student to be considered for the award. (2) The nominee should be selected on athletic, scholastic, and leadership abilities. The nominee should be deeply involved in community and school activities. (4) Must use the award as a full time student in an accredited college or university. See Mrs. Petree for more details.

April 30 – Will to Win: All students with asthma who will graduate in 2012; have achieved a level of excellence in one of the following: performing arts, visual arts, community service, athletics or science; and who will be attending college in the fall 2012 are eligible to apply. April 30 – Soroptimist-Shirley /Lollar Scholarship: One scholarship in the amount of $2,000 will be awarded to a deserving young person planning to attend college or vocational school in the fall of 2012. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of financial need and educational goals. Further information regarding eligibility requirements is included on the application form. 

May 1 - The Missouri State Leadership Scholarship: Scholarship Value: $1,000 for the academic year. This award is renewable upon completion of 30 Missouri State credit hours each year with a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. For more information see Mrs. Petree.
