High School Concert Choir

The New Covenant Academy High School Choirs have demonstrated a passion for singing since the inception of the secondary music program. NCA choirs have consistently done well both at the Missouri High School Activities Association District and State Music Festivals and private competitions and festivals, garnering "Overall Champion" awards as well as "Best of Class" and "Bronze Mickey" awards from as far away as Orlando, Chicago, and San Antonio, and as close to home as St. Louis.

Our high school singers have the opportunity to perform a wide range of music, from classical works by Haydn to contemporary “pop” music. They have also had the opportunity to partner with Evangel University’s Music Department over the years in numerous performances including Bradley Ellingboe’s “Requiem” and as the featured guest choir at Evangel’s Annual Christmas Concert.

Guest conductors and clinicians from local public schools, Drury University, Evangel University, and area church music directors have worked with our soloists, small ensembles and large ensembles over the past eight years in order to provide our students with a depth and breadth of talented local choral musicians to stretch them in their choral music education experiences. Choral students at NCA have also had the opportunity to perform with Evangel University’s Music and Theatre Departments in musicals including “Fiddler On The Roof,” “My Fair Lady,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Hello, Dolly!”

There are four large ensembles that high school choir students have the opportunity to perform in during their years at NCA. Concert Choir is a non-auditioned large ensemble for grades 9-12. Students in this ensemble also have the opportunity to participate in Mens’ and Womens’ Chorus as part of their membership in Concert Choir. Students in Concert Choir have the opportunity to audition for Chamber Choir, our most prestigious large vocal ensemble at NCA. Students who are selected for Chamber Choir rehearse outside of the regular school day and often perform for local churches and area businesses. The annual "Dash the Halls" community outreach continues to be one of the students' favorite performce days of the year.

There are many reasons for the outstanding success of the secondary choral program at NCA: God’s grace, supportive administration and faculty, good facilities, an outstanding elementary and middle school music program. But what really sets apart the program at NCA are the young men and women who participate in our choirs and their incredibly supportive parents, without whom this program does not succeed. The high school choir program motto is “together as one” – using the voices and gifts God has given to these students to come together and make music for His glory.
