MISSOURI LEADERSHIP SEMINAR

2012 will mark the 27th year MLS has provided exceptional high school sophomores from across Missouri the opportunity to discover and expand their leadership potential. The 2012 MLS will take place June 8-10, 2012 at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. The three-day seminar is offered free of cost to the student selected to represent his/her local high school. Students are sponsored by Missouri’s local civic organizations, businesses, and individuals who believe in the impact of MLS.

If you are interested in being nominated, please contact Mrs. Petree by February 15, 2012. The final nomination will be announced on March 1, 2012.

 


MISSOURI GIRLS STATE: JUNE 24-30, 2012

  • Girls State affords participants an opportunity to live together as self-governing citizens by informing them about the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of American citizenship. 

  • Every participant at MGS will receive two college credit hours from the University of Central Missouri if she meets specific requirements while attending MGS.

  • Missouri Girls State delegates that complete the program are eligible for various college scholarships at Missouri colleges and universities.

MISSOURI BOYS STATE: JUNE 16-23, 2012

  • Statewide leadership and citizenship training program that is nationally recognized.

  • Hands-on learning experience designed for young men in their junior year of high school.

  • Provides a broad understanding of government on the city, county, and state levels.

  • Teaches the duties, privileges, responsibilities, and rights of American citizenship.

  • Participants are distinguished as leaders, good citizens, and academically sound students.

  • Over $2,000,000 in scholarships available after successfully completing MBS.

  • Participants may become eligible for two or three hours of college credit.

  • No cost to student.

LEADERSHIP SPRINGFIELD ACADEMY

Established in 1990 as a project of Leadership Springfield, the Academy is open to juniors from nine Springfield public and private high schools. Thirty-two students are selected each year for a shortened version of the adult program. The program goals of the academy are:

  • To provide exposure to community structure and issues.
  • To provide interaction between developing leaders and the established leaders of today.
  • To develop personal skills needed for future roles as leaders.
  • To emphasize the importance of community service.
  • To harness the enthusiasm of youth to help solve local problems.

UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI PRECOLLEGE PROGRAM

As part of MU's commitment to provide individuals in Missouri the benefits of a world-class research university, the Office of Access Initiatives helps bring MU opportunities and resources to students, families, and educational professionals in the K-12 arena.
